About Lil

Lil stands for Lower Impact Living and was formed in 2018 from a shared passion for the environment. We support people, communities and organisations to make positive changes that reduce waste, support nature, strengthen local connections and build a stronger local future.

We are a Community Interest Company, which means our work is purpose-led and rooted in public benefit. Everything we do is shaped by a simple belief: nothing should be wasted – not resources, not opportunities, and not the power of people working together.

Lil has grown from supporting lower-impact choices in everyday life to building projects, partnerships and local infrastructure that contribute to wider systems change.

We believe little things matter - and that many little positive changes can add up to something powerful.

Our vision and mission

We want a future where we all use less and share more, a place where nothing is wasted; we all live as part of thriving communities in a thriving environment.

We bring people together to create a thriving, sustainable East Lothian by helping people use resources wisely, reduce waste, support nature, and share goods, services and knowledge within their communities.

We do this through practical action, collaboration and ideas that help lower-impact living become easier, more social and more normal.

How we create change

Lil works across four connected areas and these help people build knowledge, confidence and agency. We also help organisations and communities make wider change possible.

Inform

We share useful information and storiesthat help people understand how they can reduce consumption and support the circular economy.

Act

We create practical projects, services and opportunities that help people take part in change together and see that their actions matter.

Advocate

We raise issues, influence conversations, and support communities to shape the policies and practices that affect them.

Support

We help others develop projects, strategies and practical work that has a positive impact on the environment and local wellbeing.
