Potions Season

The scariest thing about Halloween is by far the waste statistics. Not just uneaten pumpkins, but nylon (plastic) costumes worn once, the sweet wrappers, eek…! Check out our tips to avoid it here. But the best bit is getting your witch on, cauldron out and having a play at some potions. Here are some of our favourites:

Pumpkin Face Mask

1 Tablespoon Oats (jumbo, pin or porridge? Which works best for you?)

  • 1 Tablespoon Cooked Pumpkinn

  • 1 teaspoon honey

  • 1 teaspoon Apple Cider Vinegar (not recommended for young skin)

  • 1 drop cinnamon oil

Mix all ingredients together, apply to face for 10-15 minutes and wash off with warm water and flannel.

SCRUBS

These are scrubs, not washes, ideally used once or twice a week. Add some twists to make it your own, let us know how you get on!

Coffee Face Scrub.

Take equal measures ground coffee with brown sugar. For example, half a cup of each, then a quarter cup of oil (the recipe I based it off used coconut oil, but I love local so it’s rapeseed all the way). Include some cinnamon or essential oils for scents. You can add some salt too if you like.

Some essential oils have different properties, double check if there’s a scent you love to make sure it’ll be kind to your skin too.

Oats body scrub:

Porridge oats are lovely and gentle, moisturising. We put some in some tights to make a lovely bath soak when the kids had chicken pox.

Blitz your oats in the blender. I added lavender at this stage too, especially if you’re using rapeseed oil - which can have a nutty smell. Add a tablespoon of oil and then some cooled boiled water. Boiled water will help your scrub last longer. Add some dark sugar or salt for extra scrub.

With any oil based wash or scrub, remember to wipe the shower down every time you use it. Some vinegar will help cut through any grease left behind, otherwise it gets slippery. The “I’ll do it later” has resulted in a bruised knee here…
